Hi all,
Starting the year in a new place in life, I began praying about ways to give in addition to giving to my local church. God has blessed my business and with new financial freedom, I want to live generously. After a few different promptings from God, I felt compelled to partner with Thirst Relief Internaional financially. I started by attending a Thirst Relief event at WPPI (A wedding photographer conference), then by donating $10 a month & later running a photo print sale to raise funds for world water day where we raised $800 for Thirst Relief projects. I’m also donating $100 from each 2015 wedding booked to Thirst Relief for their Filters for Families campaign.
After listening to a sermon about the gift of singleness, I was prompted to consider and pray about ways to live now that I am single and have freedom in the way I spend my time, and have freedom with my money and have talents and gifts the Lord has given me to serve others. I’ve been praying about how to use this gift of singleness and was prompted to block off a period of time (about 2-3 months) to donate my time and talents. I contacted several different organizations and things have simply lined up and fell into place with serving Thirst Relief. In praying about how to partner with Thirst Relief, I was also given a heart for Uganda. It seems like an unexplainable thing to have a desire to help people halfway across the world, but I can tell you that only God could have put that desire and idea in my mind.
I was planning on paying my own way, but my community of friends suggested that I do fund raising in order to involve my community and to allow them to take part in the work God is doing through Thirst Relief and to see The Lord work in my life as I go and serve. I think it’s also a wonderful way to have accountability to testify about the work going on there and to be accountable to the way I spend my time and energy there.
